First Mobility - Turkey

Turkey - Izmir
18th - 22nd March, 2024

From 17-23 March 2024, as part of the 'Water Saviours' project of the Erasmus+ programme, a group of students and teachers from partner schools in Poland and Finland participated in a visit to the city of Izmir in Turkey. The project participants learnt about water pollution and its impact on humans and animals. At the Natural History Museum of Katip Çelebi University, they admired a rich exhibition of different species of sea creatures, and then took part in a safari in the Gediz Delta, which is famous for its flocks of flamingos and pelicans. An important highlight was a visit to a sewage treatment plant, where polluted water is transformed into drinking water using modern technology. A visit to the ancient city of Ephesus, the Izmir Historical Museum and a stroll through one of the oldest bazaars in Turkey was an extremely attractive way to learn about the country's history, culture, tastes and smells.
The school in Izmir welcomed us very hospitably and we were able to learn about Turkish customs, dances, dishes and take part in art workshops. Living with Turkish families, the students were able not only to see what daily life is like for the people of Izmir, but also to use their language skills in a practical way.
